September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, so I thought that was a perfect time to announce our partnership with an amazing group and an awesome project. I have been fortunate to work with Derek "Kane" Long for a few years now. Derek is one of those heartfelt and genuine people, someone who you want to work with for a greater cause, making you feel like anything is possible. From the start of the Serpents of Bienville project, I wanted us to be involved in his organization, Kane's Warrior Kids.
Here's an explanation from Derek himself:
Kane’s Warrior Kids
Kane's Warrior Kids is in the final process of becoming a non-profit organization that will give funds, services, and once in a life time experiences to kids who are fighting cancer and their families along the Gulf Coast. We also race to bring awareness to the fact that only 4% of Federal funding goes to curing childhood cancer.
We want your hand prints!
If you know of a child who is currently fighting cancer, who has beaten cancer, or that has earned their angel wings, we want their name on our race cars. We have several kids from all over the country that we support with our "Warrior Kid" program. We honor these kids and their families during our racing season with special events, races, and fund raisers. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I approached Derek a little while ago about wanting to work with him on a new project to benefit Kane's Warrior Kids. After throwing many ideas back and forth, we came up with the idea to encourage the artwork these awesome kids have created. We are going to be making prints of some of the great artwork the children have been doing at the hospital. We have partnered with our good friend Jeff Ensminger and Southern Cross Press on this print project. Jeff will be printing fine art quality prints of their artwork, that we will then sell through out website. The proceeds from this project will go directly to the children that created the art. Our goal is to show these children that no matter what is going on in life, they are artists, their creations matter, and they can make a difference. Along with the new print program, a portion of the proceeds for the sales of our children’s “All Power to the Imagination” will go to Kane's Warrior Kids. To pick up your own kids shirt, click here.
